Before the rain patters, then pisses,
the evening gathers, sun flinches.
Announcing advancing winter winds,
a body springs from the shore.

The coast too cold, she's swimming it.
And though her strokes seem deliberate
she's at least half carried, with kicking so varied;
a grace she ignores.

Above clusters navy grey cotton;
below blows Saul's limp silk water;
on horizon line, dipping and bobbing,
shines skin white bright raw.

In the afters of her journey dawns silence;
a short glance, surely, back to her island -
it hides her history, houses her before,
it's riddled in mystery, soon sullen with storm.

Kettle spatters, she hisses.
Door rattles on its hinges.
It lingers, litters in empty kitchen,
shed skin on the floor.
